Storm confirm D-League Quarterfinal spot
The Southland Storm confirmed a quarterfinal spot at the Women's D-League with an 88-64 victory over Tauranga City Coasters in Auckland tonight.
After beating Northland in its tournament debut this morning, the Storm ensured it avoided a preliminary quarter final to take a direct route into the top eight courtesy of finishing undefeated and top of Pool D.
As in the morning's contest, the Storm earned their win by committee with five players reaching double figures. Maddie Tinnock again impressed with a team high 20, with the team's leadership trio of Morgan Hunter (16), Tyra Dunn (15) and Lucy Kean (15) all featuring prominently. Jenn O'Connell also added 10 of her own.
Dunn said it was a physical contest.
"It was a fast game, up and down the court which is how we wanted to play it. We have so many players who can score which showed again tonight. Tomorrow will be tough but it's been a great day today," Dunn said.
The team will face the winner of Canterbury v Manawatu at 2:15pm on Thursday for a place in the semi-finals.
